About Us

This website was created as  part of the “Hot Topic” assignment for INLS 744 at the University of North Carolina School of Information and Library Science, Fall 2011 semester.  We aim to provide information and resources on the Common Core State Standards, identify and debunk common myths related to the standards and provide strategies related to the implementation of the standards in the school library media center.

Selection Criteria:

The resources included were carefully chosen to meet the needs of our audience.  The following criteria were implemented in selection decisions:

  • Information should be current, up-to-date, complete and readily available.
  • Information should not be biased or inaccurate.
  • Creators (especially of web content) should be credible.
Please note that the Common Core Standards are a rapidly evolving issue in education today.  As of the creation of this website, 44 states and the District of Columbia have formally adopted the standards.  For the most up-to-date information please contact your state’s Department of Education or check out the In the States feature on the Common Core State Standards Initiative website.
